Arms smuggling bid foiled, ammunition seized

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Police busted a gang of smugglers and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition, claimed District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Akmal.
Addressing the media here, the DPO said strict arrangements were made for checking at inter-district checkposts to thwart the nefarious plans of terrorists.
Saddar Circle Deputy Superintendent of Police Ejaz Ahmed Bukhari,Darahma Station House Officer Ehsanul Haque and their teams foiled the smuggling of arms. During the operation, the Darahma police seized a large cache of arms, including 80 pistols with 160 magazines, four repeaters with 13 magazines and more than 23,000 bullets, among other ammunition.
A case was registered against suspects Shahid, Zahid and Umar Farooq and they were being interrogated.
WHEAT STOCK SEIZED: Under the supervision of the deputy direc-tor (food), a team led by District Food Controller Mehr Akhtar Hussain seized 700 sacks of wheat stored in two warehouses of Farooq Ahmad Shan of Nawan Shahr adjacent to Choti Zaireen and sealed the properties.
District Food Controller Mehr Akhtar Hussain said after receiving information about the wheat stock illegally stored at the warehouse of Farooq Ahmad, a resident of Nawan Shahr near Choti Zaireen, the food department conducted a raid and seized the entire stock.
Meanwhile, more sackswere found in another warehouse nearby and were seized under the Punjab Hoarding Act.
After confiscating 700 sacks of wheat from the two warehouses, the owner was arrested and a case registered against him at the Choti Zaireen police station.
RESCUE TRAINING: A training programme on rescue and emergency medical aid was organised for the security staff of Ghazi University here with the collaboration of Rescue 1122.
The rescue and safety training team gave sev-eraltasks to over50 security employees of the university regarding putting out fire and rescuing the injured in case of any accident.
They were also trained in transferring to hospital, body handling in case of death, and providing first aid in case of building accidents.
During the training, care for heart patients, stopping the flow of blood of an injured person, awareness on artificial respiration and causes and control methods of fire were also highlighted.
