Marwat seeks probe into remarks by PTI general secretary

Bureau Report 2025-01-25
PESHAWAR: Senior Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader MNA Sher Afzal Marwat has asked the party to conduct a thorough and impartial review of PTI general secretary Salman Akram Raja`s repeated actions, which have caused unnecessary `division and tension` with the party.

In his reply to a show-cause notice addressed to party`s chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, MNA Marwat said that the statement he made about Mr Raja was in response to PTI general secretary`s fourth consecutive public remarks against him.

He stated that Mr Raja`s remarks about him made on a TV show were unwarranted, disrespectful and damaging to his reputation, not only within the party but also among his supporters and the public at large.

In addition to this, Mr Marwat said that despite extending his congratulations to Mr Raja on his appointment as PTI general secretary, the very next day, he issued unprovoked and disparaging remarks against him, including veiled threats of disciplinary action.

`This set the tone for his continued pattern of hostility towards me,` he said.

Besides, he said that Mr Raja made a series of derogatory and unilateral remarks against him on multiple occasions, both in public forums and through party channels.

Recounting several of Mr Raja`s remarks against him, Mr Marwat stated that the manner in which the PTI general secretary treated him was deeply disheartening.

`His behaviour does not align with the standards of the mutual respect and decorum that every party member, regardless of rank, deserves,` he said.

Mr Marwat also asked the party to conduct a thorough and impartial review of the matter and also seek explanation from Mr Raja for his repeated actions, which have caused unnecessary division and tension with the party.

He said that Mr Raja`s action if left unchecked would continue to cause divisions within the party.

`I respectfully request that the party leadership thoroughly review the evidence I have provided and take appropriate action to uphold unity and discipline,` he said.
