Arms, explosives recovered in Peshawar raids

PESHAWAR: The police on Friday claimed to have recovered a big cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from two different locations and arrested a suspect.
The Chamkani police station personnel raided a spot in Shahpur area and recovered explosives, hand grenades and other items used in making improvised explosive devices. SHO Chamkani police Humayun Khan told Dawn that the seized items were buried in a location in Shahpur area. The items included 25kg of explosives, 34 hand grenades, prima cord, fuses, detonators and 34 hand grenades.
Meanwhile, SSP Sajjad Khan told a press conference that the chief of capital city police Tahir Khan had received credible information about presence of arms and ammunition hidden in a house in Safe City Home Town near GT Road, Chamkani, which would be smuggled to other districts for carrying out acts of terrorism.
He said the CCPO constituted a team which raided the said residence and recovered 24 guns, 21 pistols, 7,100 rounds and 76 magazines. Police also arrested a suspect named Ayub Khan.
The SSP said that the seized items were to be used for acts of terrorism.
Meanwhile, Orakzai Scouts carried out an intelligence-based operation in Garhi and Kandi Mashti areas of Orakzai Agency and recovered heavy weapons and ammunition.
An official said the recovered items included 10 rocket-propelled grenades along with six chargers, a grenade, a heavy machine gun along with 115 rounds, a 12-bore rifle with 18 rounds, six SMGs with 120 rounds, a heavy machine gun barrel and two binoculars. A suspect was also arrested for further investigation. -Bureau Report
