QWP vows to resist any attempt to delay polls

PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party has urged the political leadership to avoid politics of confrontadon and focus on the upcoming election so as to ensure free and fair polls within time. It warned that confrontational policies could harm the democratic process.

According to a statement issued here on Saturday, a meeting of QWP core committee was held at its secretariat with its chairman Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao in the chair. The participants also said that confrontation with the state institutions would be detrimental to the country`s future and especially to the rights of Pakhtuns.

The meeting regretted vital issues concerning Pakhtuns` rights had been ignored which would increase uncertainty among them. It was stated that the killing of Nageebullah Mehsud of Waziristan and Ahmad Shah of Bajaur Agency could perpetuate the agonies of Pakhtuns unless justice was done in these cases.

The party said that the confrontation between the government and opposition would ultimately put the major issues such as the Fata-KP merger and nor-malisation of Pak-Afghan relations on the backburner.Itnotedthatafter a few months the elections would be held and the political parties should work for mobilisation of masses to ensure maximum participation of the people in the next general elections.

The QWP asked the politicians to play their role in averting any instability.

The participants said that QWP was the staunch supporter of the rule of law and power of parliament and would play its due role for the stability of democratic process and resist any attempt that could delay the next general elections.

It was stated that the elections would provide an effective platform to the political parties to put their programmes before the people and seek mandate. It said that the ultimate verdict would be given by the people about the manifestos of the political parties.

`QWP believes that confrontation is no solution to the problems and the institutional dialogues are needed to resolve the issues confronting the country,` it said.

The core committee meeting was attended by party`s provincial chairman Sikandar Sherpao, central general secretary Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli, provincial general secretary Hashim Babar, Haji Ghufran, Jameel Marghuz, Asad Afridi, provincial information secretary Tariq Khan and Adnan Wazir.
