PESHAWAR: Maulana Mufti Mahmud today [Feb 24] said that `we will go to the people`s court and resist if either President`s Rule was imposed or the Provincial Assembly was dissolved and fresh elections ordered in NWFP`.
Such action, he said, would be unconstitutional to which they, as elected representatives ... and commanding a clear majority in the provincial legislature, will not submit.
In an exclusive interview ... Mufti Sahib said that if a minority government was foisted on the NWFP, the NAP-JUI-UF would immediately requisition an emergency session of the Provincial Assembly to test the respective strengths. Mufti Mahmud said that two courses were open to President Bhutto now if he wanted democracy to reassert itself in NWFP and Baluchistan: He should either rescind his action taken in the NAP-JUIgoverned provinces, or convince the people of the urgency ... of the situation which forced him to take the action. Correspondent [Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Islamabad,] President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has sent a message to President Anwar Sadat of the Arab Republic of Egypt expressing his shock and grief at the shooting down of a Libyan civilian airliner by Israel recently which has resulted in the loss of precious lives.
