Seats redistribution

A COMMITT EE of five to go into the question of redistribution of seats in the Pakistan Constituent Assembly in view of the changes in the complexion of the population of the various provinces was set up on Tuesday [Feb 24] when the Assembly held a 65-minute session. Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah presided. There was a lively debate over an amendment moved by Prof Raj Kumar Chakravarty providing for at least a yearly session of the Pakistan Legislature in Dacca, the capital of Eastern Pakistan. The amendment, though lost, evoked support from some Muslim League members from East Bengal.

[It was also reported that] The Standing Committee of the Pakistan Newspaper Editors` Conference, at a meeting held in Karachi on Tuesday considered ways and means of how the Press could help in creating goodwill among all sections of the people of Pakistan.

The Committee accordingly decided to appeal to all the newspapers to promote cordiality and to discourage provincialism in any shape or form, in the larger interests of the nation. News agencies
