KARACHI: Two sanitation workers died after inhaling toxic gases while cleaning gutter lines in North Nazimabad on Monday evening, police said.

They were identified as Abdul Ghaffar, 27, and Tufail Gul, 25.

Taimuria SHO Saqib Khan said two labourers were working in a sewer at Landi Kotal Chowrangi when the gutter line broke up. Due to rapid spread of toxic gases that they inhaled from it, the workers became unconscious, fell inside the sewer, and died.

Rescue-1122 official Hassaan Khan said the third person who went inside the manhole was saved by rescue workers. The victims, he added, were employees of a third party contractor hired by the town administration. —Staff Reporter
