HYDERABAD: Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) leaderMahmood Khan Achakzai, who is currently spearheading a movement for the protection of Constitution along with other mainstream opposition parties, has said thatever since Pakistan`s inception, the question of its Constitution has remained unaddressed.

`Powerful unconstitutional forces have always trampled over the Constitution at will,` he remarked while speaking to journalists after meeting Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party (STP) Chairman Dr Q adir Magsi at the latter`s residence on Monday.

Achakzai invited him to attend the opposition alliance`s conference being held on Feb 26 and 27 in Islamabad.

After discussing with him the political situation prevailing in the country, Dr Magsi said that his party`s delegation would visit Islamabad and if it felt its objections were being deemed correct, then the STP could become part of this alliance.Dr Magsi also sought support of the opposition alliance for the ongoing struggle against six new canals to be drawn from Indus.

During the discussion, Achakzai recalled that Pakistan had disintegrated in the past when the results of [1970] general elections were not accepted. He said Feb 8 [2024] was the day when constitutional and fundamental rights of citizens were ridiculed.

`Those defeated in the elections were declared winners quite arrogantly only to put Pakistan into a difficult phase,` he added.

The PkMAP leader said that the Constitution draftedunderZ.A.Bhutto`s leadership was also accepted `with reservations` because people like him believed in a federation based on equal rights of all nations. `But, theConstitution has now been destroyed through the 26th amendment,` he said.

`We under compulsion can demand formation of a new legislative assembly,` he said, and observed that lawmakers would take oath of defending the Constitution, but certain forces would violate their oath of not taking part in practical politics. `This country is now like a sinking ship,` he remarked.

Achakzai said he did have differences with [PTI founder] Imran Khan but as a matter of fact, Khan had won the Feb 8 elections.

`Those who sell loyalties get millions and those who decline are dubbed as traitors ... we are from that group of traitors, who want supremacy of Constitution, he said, adding that he was here to include Dr Qadir Magsi in this list.
