SWABI: Speakers at a gathering here on Wednesday advised people to resolve their disputes through jirga system as it would save their time and money besides ensuring a bright future for the younger generation.

The jirga was convened in Gandaf where dispute between two families was settled and the arch rivals declared by oath that they would live like brothers in future.

The participants appreciated the role of the jirga in settlement of the dispute between the families of Ali Jadoon and Irfan Jadoon.

National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser also participated in the jirga and urged people to settle their enmities and focus on education of their children.

He said that Pakhtun hujra and jirga enjoyed an exceptional position in the society. `We should strengthen them, he said. He asked the local jirga members to play due role in peaceful settlement of disputes.

Mr Qaiser said that police and district administration would extend complete support to the jirga members to settle disputes according to the Pakhtun traditions and customs. The other jirga members said that jirga worked for peace and always provided free services to the society.

That`s why jirga enjoyed great respect in the Pakhtun society, they added.

Meanwhile, DPO Mohammad Shoaib Khan told the Razaar jirga members that they would be fully supported by police to resolve disputes. He said that the Jirga members and police would work jointly for settlement of feuds to maintain peace in the region.

`The jirga members are more powerful than the police because they personally know the rival families. I fully support the jirga members to eradicate social evils from the district,` said the official.

Meanwhile, police recovered an auto rickshaw from car lifters on Wednesday.

Chota Lahor police station SHO Altif Khan told Dawn that Said Rahim of Sheikh Dheri had registered an FIR a few days ago about snatching his rickshaw and motorbike at gunpoint by three persons near University of Swabi. He said that police traced the car lifters and recovered from them the rickshaw, mobile phone and a pistol. Correspondent
