Two awarded 12 years` imprisonment in torture case

KARACHI: A sessions court on Monday handed down a collective sentence of 12 years to two men for torturing a couple.
Allah Bux and Irfan were found guilty of chopping of the nose and ears of complainant Khudadad and also subjecting his wife to torture at their house in Brohi Goth, Ittehad Town in April 2014.
The additional district and sessions judge (West) Ilimuddin Janwari ruled that the case stood proved against both accused, adding that the offence was committed in the name or pretext of honour.
The court sentenced both men to five years` imprisonment each for the offences of chopping of the ears and nose and house-breaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment,and two years` term for causing injuries to the complainant`s wife, Basra.
The court also directed both convicts to pay a compensation of Rs1,680,270 each to the complainant for each of the mutilation offences.
Moreover, the judge also ordered the convicts to pay compensation of Rs50,000 each to the injured woman and ruled that both convicts will remain in prison till the payment of the compensation.
According to the prosecution, the complainant had contracted a second marriage with Samina, but later divorced her and on April 8, some relatives of Samina broke into the house of the complainant and committed the offence.
A case was lodged against the accused at Manghopir police station while Ali Bux and Ali Raza are proclaimed offenders in the case.
