Seven beverage, ice-cream factories sealed in Lower Dir

TIMERGARA: The Lower Dir administration on Tuesday sealed seven factories manufacturing substandard beverages and ice-cream, and warned the vendors not to sell low quality ice-creams and crackers outside educationalinstitutions.

Assistant Commissioner, Timergara, Ubaidullah Khan, on the directives of deputy commissioner raided different markets in the city and sealed seven illegally operating factories. Owners of these factories were also booked under section 144.

Talking to journalists, Mr Ubaidullah said the administrationhad imposed section 144 on the production and sale of substandard beverages and ice-cream in the district, but there had been complaints from various areas that unchecked sale of these unhygienic products was continuing which was causing throat infections and chest diseases among the people, particularly children.

CENSUS BEGINS TODAY: In-charge of population census in Lower Dir, Bakht Alam, told Dawn on Monday that the district had been divided into four subdivisions and 1,332 blocks for the second phase of the housing and population census starting today (Tuesday).

He said 670 enumerators, 196 circle supervisors and 37 charge superintendents had been engaged for the exer-cise undertightsecurity.

Mr Alam said the first three days had been speciñed for house count, adding each team comprised of an enumerator, two army men and a police and Levies constable each.

FEUD SETTLED: A jirga led by former MPA Haji Bahadar Khan settied a blood feud at Mian Kaly in Jandol on Tuesday.

One Mohammad, a resident of Mian Kaly, had killed father of Asghar Khan over a land dispute some years back, after which the family of the accused had migrated elsewhere.

However, the local jirga started efforts to settle the feud, and made the rival parties to reconcile. The victim family forgave the family of the alleged killer.
