Maryam wants Adiala Road flyover, The Mall underpass completed by May 31

RAWALPINDI: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday directed that two projects the flyover on Adiala Road and the underpass on The Mall be completed by May 31.
The chief minister visited the garrison city and inspected various ongoing development projects.
She reportedly expressed satisfaction over the expected completion of the projects within the stipulated time frame and commended the administration.
She visited the Rawalpindi GPO Underpass and the Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover project.
Ms Nawaz reviewed the construction quality and also inspected the ongoing construction activities.
She directed that construction quality be ensured under all circumstances and ordered tree plantation along both sides of the roads.
Two more underpasses will be built to make The Mall in Rawalpindi signal-free.
Two hundred thousand vehicles will be able to pass through the underpass daily,` she said.
She added that the construction of the underpass would make it easier for patients visiting AFIC and MH to cross the road.
She said that The Mall would be made signal-free for a stretch of 26 kilometres. The Mohammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover on Adiala Road will be completed at a cost of Rs2.3 billion, while the underpass project on The Mall will cost Rs4.38 billion.
The construction work of the Mohammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover project is 85 per cent complete and the underpass project is 60 per cent complete.
Officials from the Communication and Works Department gave a detailed briefing on the ongoing projects to the chief minister. It was informed during the briefing that the installation of piles for the overhead bridge of the flyover project has been completed.
Fifty-six girders for the flyover have been prepared and 32 girders have been installed. Construction work on seven drains of the flyover is ongoing and the boundary wall has also been completed, they said.
The chief minister also reviewed the construction activities of the underpass at The Mall at GPO Chowk.
The construction of 2,093 piles and girders for the underpass has been completed. A special path for pedestrians has also been included in the project.
Construction work is currently underway on 56 development projects in the Rawalpindi division.
The completion of the Adiala Road flyover will provide citizens with direct access to the motorway and the Rawalpindi Ring Road. Approximately 79,000 vehicles will benefit daily from the completed flyover, according to officials. Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Chief Secretary Zahid Zaman Akhtar and other senior officials were also present during the chief minister`s visit.
