Computerisation of Sindh electoral rolls to be completed in July

KARACHI: Sindh Election Commissioner Tanveer Zakal has said that preparations for computerised electoral rolls for 2018 generalelections in Sindhhave started and the project will be completed in phases districtwise by the second week of July.

The system has been developed by the election commission`s information technology department.

Under the system data centres will be set up in the district election commission offices, where data entry operators willbe available to update electoralrolls by entry of eligible voters and transfer the voter from the district in case of their shifting from one locality to another and in case of death ofa voter, his orher name will be deleted from the electoral rolls.

Mr Zaki stated this while inaugurating the computerised electoral rolls` system in the provincial election commission on Tuesday, where presentation was also given to under-training ofñcers and other staff about the system which would contribute to ensuring transparency in the elections.IT director of the election commission Babar Malik and other team members from Islamabad were also present, who assisted the under-training ofñcers in carrying out exercises in the IT lab with the help of computerised geographic information system technology.

In reply to a question, Mr Zaki said that in the first phase electoral rolls were being computerised and later they would be updated after their entry in the system which would also help people in getting entry, transfer and deletion of their votes.
