School exploitation

2023-05-25
AN unjust practice by a leading private school requires students to pay three months` advance fees in order to obtain their statement of entry for O level examinations, which were held recently.

The school had asked for fee related to April, May and June to be paid to get the said statement. I requested the management and the head mistress concerned to make the amount payable over three months, but nothing happened. I am deeply troubled by this practice as it puts undue financial burden on students and their families.

Education is a fundamental right and should be accessible to all without discrimination. However, the requirement of paying three months` feesin one go,andthattooin advance, to obtain the statement of entry for exams creates unnecessary financial pressure on students and their families, particularly those who are alreadyfacing economic challenges. Such tactics may result in students being denied the opportunity to appear in exams, and that will surely have long-term consequences on their academic progress andfuture prospects.

It is time to prioritise the rights of studentsand ensure thatthey arenot denied the opportunity to pursue their education due to financial barriers.

As the higher judiciary believes in taking suo motu action, will it care to intervene and addressthisissue, too? SyedFarhanAhmedQadri Karachi
