Lawyers threaten to quit PTI NOWSHERA, July 24: The members of Insaf Lawyer Forum Nowshera have threatened to resign from the party if their decision regarding nominations for the posts of additional advocate general and deputy advocate general were not accepted.
`The forum has decided that majority members of ILF would resign from the party if the provincial government stressed to impose their blue-eyed lawyers on us,` said Mian Rashid Jan, president ILF, while talking to Dawn after a meeting held here on Wednesday at sub-secretariat of the chief minister.
The meeting was presided over by Dr Imran Khattak, candidate for NA-5 Nowshera-1 and son-in-law of the chief minister, while MPA Khaleequr Rehman was also present.
Before the meeting, it was decided that the candidates for the posts including Haji Mohammad Riaz, Mian Rashid Jan, Shujat Shah Kakakhel, Wilayat Khattak and Mujahid Ali Khan would give written authority to the elected representative and they would decided about the appointments.
Mr Jan added that the candidates signed the proposed formula for filling the posts but later majority of ILF members refused to accept the decision. -Correspondent USC fails to facilitate paople PESHAWAR, July 24: Government has failed to ensure provision of all the items meant to be supplied on subsidised rates at the utility stores in Peshawar.
During a visit to some stores it was observed that some items like cooking oil, ghee, fine atta and beverages were not available for the past about one week. Similarly, government has given Re1 subsidy on a piece of lemon max (detergent bar) but on the other side its weight had been reduced from 120 gram to 110 gram.
The staff members at the stores said that there were many items in the subsidised commodities list but the concerned high-ups were not providing them to the stores located in the suburbs.
`You can find them in some stores which are close to media offices, government departments or on main roads, they commented. -Bureau Report BS programme at Swat varsity MINGORA, July 24: The University of Swat announced on Wednesday to launch BS programme in various departments after the FA, FSc results.A meeting of heads of departments (HoDs) was held with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Jahanzeb Khan in the chair, which discussed matters related to academics. Apart from HoDs of all teaching departments the registrar and controller examination also attended the meeting.
The vice-chancellor suggested that the masters programme should also be started in different departments. He also issued instructions that four-year BS programme should be started soon after the FSc and FA results.
Meeting also discussed the feasibility of new disciplines in the university. The vice-chancellor said that all efforts should be made to establish new departments in the university. -Correspondent Fake drinks factory sealed KOHAT, July 24: A factory making fake drinks of famous multinational brands was sealed and two accused were arrested here on Wednesday.
The police acting on a tip-off raided a factory in Ghulam Banda Afghan refugee camp and seized 1,533 bottles of fake drinks. A non-custom paid vehicle was also taken into custody.
Meanwhile, a female college student was kidnapped by her relatives when she was going home after taking examination, police said.
The student`s father, Mian Gul, resident of Sayal Baz road, Kohat cantonment told police that her daughter Sameena went to college but did not return home.
He said he had contacted all her relatives and friends who expressed ignorance about her whereabouts.
He alleged that Ahmed, one of his relatives, had kidnapped his daughter from outside the college. The cantonment police have registered a case and launched investigations. -Correspondent Girl commits suicide CHITRAL, July 24: A schoolgirl of class-9 committed suicide after an altercation with her husband after Sehri in Kuju village near Chitral city on Wednesday.
Police told Dawn that Razmia Bibi of Kuju village committed suicide by jumping into Chitral River. She was married to Raheemullah of the same village in March last.
The dead body is yet to be retrieved from the river and the searchers are facing difficulty due to high flood in the river.
Meanwhile, a retired army man Shaan Ilahi from Orghoch village drowned after he slipped into the water while fishing in the river. -Correspondent Tube-wells on solar power PESHAWAR, July 24: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Irrigation Minister Shah Farman here on Wednesday highlighted the significance of solar technology saying proper utilisation of solar energy would not only resolve the issue of energy crisis but also cast a positive impact on the provincial economy.
He expressed these views while chairing a meeting of Irrigation department attended by Secretary Irrigation Jameel Ahmad and Chief Engineer Irrigation Sikandar Khan besides other officials.
The meeting discussed various issues and means to use solar energy and decided that tube-wells of irrigation department would be run by solar energy in the near future.
The meeting was told that necessary work in this regard would be completed in a few days.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that we had been endowed with the endless solar energy source and its proper utilisation would bring dramatic change in power generation sector. -APP Rights of Kalash minorities PESHAWAR, July 24: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Tourism, Culture, Sports, Museums and Archeology Mahmood Khan on Wednesday said that the provincial government was trying its utmost to protect the rights of minorities and further promote the culture of Kalash people.
He was talking to a 12-member delegation of Kalash valleys led by Wazirzada Mohtarma Saeed Gul here. Secretary Information Azmat Hanif Orakzai, Director Culture, XEN C&W Chitral and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion.
The delegation apprised the minister in detail of the problems confronting the minorities of Kalash valleys and demanded to give monthly salary to Qazis in Kalash area.
They also demanded holding of Kalash festival, provision of land for graveyard and appointing local teachers in government primary schools of Kalash valleys so that the teachers could effectively impart education to the children in local language.
Mahmood Khan said the provincial government had earmarked Rs10 million in the ADP for the development and welfare of minorities dwelling in Kalash valleys out of which Rs5 million would be spent this year on the ongoing development schemes. -APP
