Protest as police release murder suspect

TOBA TEK SINGH: Scores of people blocked traffic on Faisalabad Road, Tandlianwala, on Monday in protest against police for allegedly releasing the `killer` of a girl.

The protesters blocked the Faisalabad Road for more than half an hour against Garh police, alleging they set free the `murderer` of the girl.

Father Ghulam Murtaza, who was among the protesters, told reporters that on June 8 his daughter Samreen was murdered by his nephew.

He said the police arrested the suspect, but later released him.

The protesters demanded the police should rearrest the suspect and ensure strict punishment to him.

Police officials reaching the spot, held talks with the protesters and assured them that the suspect would be rearrested after which the road was opened to traffic.

Later, the police took some of the murdered girl`s relatives to Faisalabad, where Sadar SP Shamsul Haq Durrani held a meeting with them and assured them that an inquiry would be conducted into the matter.

The SP ordered the Garh police to rearrestthe suspect immediately for interrogation.

ACCIDENT: Two persons died after a truck hit their motorcycle in Faisalabad on Monday near the level crossing of the Sitara Colony area on Faisalabad-Sirshameer Road.

The deceased were identified as Muhammad Saleh and his father Akbar Ali from Chak 91-RB. They were treated for severe injuries at the Government General Samanabad Hospital but succumbed to their injuries.

A D M I S S I O N : Admissions are in progress at Toba Tek Singh sub-campus of the University of Agriculture of Faisalabad for session 2023-24.

Principal Dr Ziaur Rehman told reporters on Monday that undergraduate degree morning programmes -Poultry Science, Animal Science, Zoology, Computer Science, Chemistry, BBA and Human Nutrition Dietetics -while the evening programmes include Biochemistry, Math, Toba , Botany, English and Information Technology.

He said first entrance test had already been held and now second test for admissions to these degree programmes was scheduled on Aug 6 for which students can apply till July 3.
