11 PTI men sentenced to six months in prison

ISLAMABAD: A local court on Thursday sentenced 11 PTI workers to six months in prison each, while acquitting one individual, in three separate cases registered under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act.

The cases stemmed from protests held in Islamabad`s Ramna and Tarnol areas on Nov 26, 2024.

Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Shehzad Gondal delivered a reserved verdict in two cases lodged at the Ramna police station, handing down six-month sentences to the accused.

In a separate case registered at the Tarnol police station, Judicial Magistrate Mureed Abbas sentenced a number of workers to six months in prison.

The verdict in the Ramna case was reserved on July 18, while the Tarnol case verdict was reserved earlier this week.

However, in a separate proceeding, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) discharged PTI workers in another case related to a political gathering in Sangjani.

ATC Judge Abual Hasanat Mohammad Zulgarnain ordered the release of all 11 accused after expressing dissatisfaction with the police investigation.

During the hearing, PTI lawyers argued that despite a ten-day remand, no progress had been made in the investigation.

Judge zulgarnain questioned the police`s conduct, asking, `What investigation has the police conducted so far? I don`t understand what the police are doing.

What is the IG Islamabad doing?` Consequently, the court ordered all the workers to be discharged from the Sangjani case due to lack of evidence.
