ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Health on Thursday dissolved its subcommittee probing allegations against the director of National Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (NIRM), following heated arguments between SIC MNA Nisar Ahmed Jatt and JUI-F MNA Aliya Kamran over giving `unnecessary` favour to the official.
After the exchange of arguments, MNA Kamran walked out. However, committee members decided to hold an in-camera meeting over the issue.
Last month MNA Jatt had submitted a dossier containing complaints against the director of the NIRM and an administrative crisis, including allegations of staff absenteeism, ghost surgeries and internal victimisation.
Chairman of the Committee Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani had established a four-member subcommittee headed by PPP MNA Dr Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro to look into the issue and submit a report.
On Thursday, MNA Jatt revealed that the subcommittee had held a meeting and exonerated the director of NIRM without inviting him [MNA Jatt] to the meeting.
He asked how it was possible that the complainant was not called or heard and the subcommittee disposed of the complaint.
However, MNA Kamran, who was also a member of the subcommittee, protested and said MNA Jatt had no right to make remarks or raise questions about the members of the committee. She then announced her decision to boycott the meeting and walked out of the committee room.
Due to the situation, the chairman of the committee dissolved the subcommittee on NIRM and decided that the issue would be taken up in the main standing committee, where all stakeholders would be heard in an incamera session. Staff Reporter
