Command & control centre opened

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah inaugurated a command and control centre at CM House on Monday. Set up at a cost of Rs120 million, it will help detect criminal activities, improve traffic management and witness action by rescue and police personnel.
The chief minister, who wasaccompanied by provincial ministers Nisar Khuhro, Gianchand Israni, Mukesh Kumar Chawala, MNAs and senior ofHcers, after opening the centre visited its server room, recording system and system of sharing details with the authorities concerned.
He directed his principal secretary Alamuddin Bullo to run the centre efficiently and make it useful for the public.
Earlier, the secretary forinformation and technology briefing the chief minister said that 200 cameras of the police department had been linked with the command and control centre, and 1,800 cameras of the KMC would also be linked with it by the end of next week.
He also said that VVIP programmes or movement could also be monitored by making special arrangements. `This centre has an unlimitedcapacity to cover or view surveillance cameras,` the secretary said.
IGP Ghulam Hyder Jamali told the chief minister that the surveillance cameras installed by the police were of two megapixel. `We are working with a foreign agency and we would upgrade the cameras to eight megapixels. This would improve the quality of the footage manifold,` he said.
