Karachi infrastructure

2017-08-25
IN the aftermath of recent rains, the manner in which roads and underpasses were inundated with water reflects the massive corruption which has destroyed the infrastructure of Pakistan`s financial hub, Karachi.

The civil bureaucracy and elected local and provincial governments which have held office in the last two decades are responsible for this.

The city government charges citizens for water supply, although water seldom flows through pipes and taps. Governments have changed, but the only constant factor is the power of the water tanker mafia, which continues to mint money.

The PPP and MQM have been in power, but they did nothing for Karachi. Garbage dumps have made Karachi an ideal place for mosquito breeding etc..

The Punjab government, although it is tainted with allegations of corruption, has done better if one compares the standard and quality of roads, bridges, underpasses and the sewerage system with those built in Karachi and the interior of Sindh.
