Teachers rally to demand arrest of colleague`s killers

KARAK: Hundreds of teachers of the government schools held a rally here on Wednesday to demand early arrest of killers of their colleague.

They gathered at the government higher secondary school, Karak, and marched to the office of the deputy commissioner, Karak. The participants of the rally, led by Government Teachers Alliance leaders Khairullah Hawari and Javed Iqbal Khattak, chanted slogans against the district administration for its failure to arrest the killers of a teacher, Arifullah, who was killed on Sept 16 inside the school in Koh-i-Maidan village.

They teachers also staged a protest sit-in outside the office of deputy commissioner Shoaib Jadoon. On this occasion, the speakers said that family of the slain teacher should be compensated under the Shuhda package. They said that they would not tolerate the silence of the district administration over the killing of their colleague.

They said that the administration had failed to arrest the killers of the teacher, which had created unrest among the entire community. He said that the teachers had been feeling insecure. He demanded prompt arrest of the killers and their trial under the anti-terrorism law.

They said that the government should award civil award to the slain teacher for his bravery and spreading the light of education in the remote area of the district.

They demanded establishment of a police checkpost in the hilly area of the district to provide security to the teachers and peace-loving people of the area.

They threatened to extend their protest to other areas of the province if their genuine demands, including provision of security, were not accepted. The protesters dispersed peacefully when the deputy commissioner assured them of solution of their problems and arrest of Mr Arifullah`s killers as early as possible.
