Police inaction over child, bonded labour concerns RPO

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi divisional police chief has directed City Police Of ficer (CPO) Abbas Ahsan and the district police chiefs of Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal to undertake efforts to eliminate child and bonded labour in brick kilns a success.

In a letter to the police chiefs, the Rawalpindi regional police officer (RPO) said a special campaign to eliminate child labour and bonded labour in brick kilns was launched in February on directives of the provisional government.

In line with these directives, a daily report on the police`s performance with regard to the campaign is sent to the inspector general of police (IGP) Punjab.

The RPO said it had been observed that police were not making appropriate ef forts in this campaign.

He directed the police chiefs to look into the matter personally and activate their staff to make the campaign successful.

According to police sources, the CPO, in response to the IGP`s directives, ordered all SHOs to crack down on child labour in brick kilns. The CPO has also sought daily reports from SHOs on the campaign. Staf f Reporter
