Murder suspect killed in firing by accomplices

B A H AW A L P U R : Nowshera Jadid police claimed that a suspect in their custody was killed when his accomplices attacked a police team to free him near Uch Sharif, about 70kms from here.

According to a press release on Tuesday, the suspect, Amir, was in police custody on physical remand in a murder case.

He was taken to a place near Uch Sharif for recovery of murder weapon.

When the police team was returning after recovery of the weapon, six unidentified accomplices of the suspect allegedly opened fire on policemen in a bid to free Amir from custody.

The police returned the fire, and during the shootout with the criminals a bullet fired by his accomplices hit Amir, who died on the spot.

Police said Amir had allegedly killed a young man during a dacoity and was arrested by police.

He was wanted in over a dozen cases of heinous crimes, including murders and dacoities.

Police have registered cases against the fleeing accomplices of the deceased.

BURIED ALIVE: Twolabourers were buried alive under a huge earth mound while extracting bricks from a well in fields near Suiwala village near Lodhran on Monday night.

Identified as Riaz Ahmed (31) and Atif (18), the labourers went down the well to extract bricks used in its wall, when a huge mound of earth fell on them.

On being called to the spot by locals, a 25-member Rescue 1122 team launched an operation to retrieve the labourers.

After a night-long operation, the rescuers retrieved the bodies of the labourers from the heap of earth and handed these over to their families.

FOOD POISONING: Eight members of a family, including six women fell unconscious allegedly because of food poisoning at Adda Mukdi at 81/DB village in Yazman tehssil, about 40km from here on Tuesday.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the family members ate rice cooked at their home after which they fell sick and fell unconscious allegedly because of food poisoning. They were shifted to Yazman Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, where they were being treated by doctors.
