Two killed, eight injured in clash over LG polls

TOBA TEK SINGH: Two persons were killed and eight others injured in separate clashes over local government election in two villages on Tuesday.

In the ñrstincident, the groups of PML-N candidate for UC-51 Farzand Ali Gujjar and National Muslim League candidate Faryad Ali Gujjar clashed and exchanged Hre at Chak 294-GB in the Rajana police station area.

Witnesses said there was a tension between both the rival groups after Nov 19 local body elections.

Farzand Ali Gujjar had launched a gas pipeline project before election to get votes from his village.

When pipeline work was in progress on Tuesday in the streetofFaryad,heandhis supporters objected that the pipeline was being laid on wrong side of their street. Harsh words were exchanged and both the groups traded Hre. As a result, the grandmother of Faryad Gujjar, identified as Azmat Bibi, died while his group`s man Farzand Nawab was injured.

Four people of the PML-N group, including Farzand Ali Gujjar, his brother Sardar Ali Gujjar, sister Sakina Bibi and his relative Bhutta Rehmat Gujjar were also injured.

All the injured were shifted to DHQ Hospital.

Later, Sardar Ali Gujjarwas referred to Allied Hospital Faisalabad in a critical condition.

In the second incident, a clash occurred between groups of PTI UC-33 elected chairman Rana Hasan Khan and PML-N`s defeated candidate Hafiz Naeem Ahmad, at Chak 293-Jb, Bhagwan. As a result, four passers-by were injured.

Out of them, one Maqbool Ahmad, was referred to the Allied Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds while three others, including a woman, were under treatment in Toba DHQ Hospital.

BY-ELECTION: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) appointed Regional Election Commissioner Tahir Mansoor Khan as district returning officer for byelection in PP-89 Toba Tek Singh, scheduled for Jan 6, 2016.

The seat was vacated after the death of PML-N MPA Makhdoom Ali Raza Shah.

Notifications issued by the ECP said Faisalabad District Election Commissioner Kamran Husain would be returning officer while Pirmahal assistant commissioner and Pirmahal deputy district education officer have been deputed as assistant returning officers.

The nomination papers will be filed by the candidates on Dec 1 and 2.
