TLP leaders: verdict on plea for treason case reserved

LAHORE: A sessions court on Saturday reserved verdict on a petition seeking registration of a case on charges oftreason againstleaders of Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) and others for resorting to violent protests, damaging public and private property and hurling threats at heads of state institutions the judiciary and the army.
A report submitted on behalf ofthe Civil Lines SHO stated that a case had already been registered against TLP head Maulana Khadim Hussain Rizvi and others for creating law and order situation and ransacking public and private property. It said sections 186, 188, 290, 291, 353, and 427 of the PPC as well as section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order had been included in the FIR.
The sections deal with various of fences, including obstructing public servant in discharge of public func-tions, disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant, public nuisance and assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty.
Petitioner`s counsel, however, urged the court to order the police to also include sedition charge in the case against the accused persons as they were involve d in hurling threats at the heads of state institutions.
District and Sessions Judge Rai Muhammad Kharal reserved the verdict on the petition.
