Sherpao demands reforms for better service delivery

CHARSADDA: Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Friday called for introducing constitutional, bureaucratic and judicial reforms to promote democracy and ensure better service delivery.

Addressing a public gathering in Shabgadar tehsil here, he said the people were not getting any relief in the absence of reforms.

Pakistan Tehreek-iInsaf`s former district council member Ilyas Khan along with his supporters announced joining the QWP on the occasion.

Mr Sherpao maintained that introducing reforms would ensure provincial autonomy and pave the way for national cohesion. He said the people also felt theneed for introducing reforms. He said the people were facing a host of issues and wanted the government to provide them relief, particularly in the face of skyrocketing inflation.

The QWP leader said a level playing field should be provided to all the stakeholders and political forces. He said an enabling environment should be created to ensure the holding of free, fair and transparent elections. He added majority of the political leaders believed that the 2018 general election was rigged, but no probe was conducted to fix the responsibility and punish the ones responsible for influencing the polls` outcome.

The seasoned politician said the people were grappling with a host of issues, adding that the have-nots were unable to feed their children due to rising pov-erty.

The QWP leader said the promises made with regard to the merged districts must be honoured.

He said the province should be given its due rights as per the Constitution. He also asked the political parties to honour the pledges made to the people.

He reiterated the resolve that no effort would be spared to work for the wellbeing and prosperity of Pakhtuns. `We will not rest until the Pakhtuns get their due rights,` he vowed.

Mr Sherpao said the QWP was striving to get the rights of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa enshrined in the Constitution.

Commenting on the prevailing political situation, he said that election was the only way to steer the country out of the crises.
