GUJRANWALA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has accorded approval to recruitment of 300,000 Pakistan Qaumi Razakars (PQRs) for the security of educational institutions across the country, it is learnt.

A decision to the effect has been taken in the wake of the Peshawar carnage as police personnel could not be deployed at schools because of their other crucialduties.

According to a source, the PQRs would perform under the supervision of police while the provincial government had sought the requisition of `razakars` from police in each district besides the lists ofthose volunteers who were already working there.

He said as many as 1,000 PQRs were performing in 30 police stations in Gujranwala district.

SP (headquarter) Ms Shaista Nadeem confirmed the number of PQRs working in the district and said no fresh demand for more volunteers was forwarded to the higher authorities.

Meanwhile, District Health Officer Dr. Rana Akram sent on Wednesday a memorandum to the city police officer for deploying police personnel outside his office for security.

He said the building also housed a polio workers office where people daily visited for getting health certificates.
