THE recent football World Cup final in Qatar was amazing on all counts, with two of the greatest teams fighting it out till the very last minute. This was the best game of football I have ever watched, and I am certainly not alone in saying so. Argentina lifted the coveted trophy after a nail-biting game, and that made almost everyone delighted bar the French.
The victory ended a 36-year wait for the Argentines to reclaim the World Cup title they last won in 1986 when they were led by the iconic Diego Maradona.
Kylian Mbappe was outstanding for France, bringing the team back into contention from when all seemed lost till the 80th minute when Argentina was ahead 2-0. But the stars aligned to make it an occasion for Lionel Messi, who, as an individual, deserved to lift the crown.
Mbappe could only make the moment memorable, and he did with his heroics, making the Messi moment even sweeter. For millions of football fans around the world, it was a treat to watch the spectacle as the two shining stars lived up to their billing.
As for the World Cup overall, Morocco deserves all the accolades it got for itsincredible campaign, and Qatar must get a pat on the back for holding the event so successfully.
