PTI contenders file nomination papers after two-day struggle

MUZAFFARGARH: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Shabiir Qureshi and his wife Rabia Qureshi have finally submitted their nomination papers for NA-179 and NA-180 af ter a turn of events.

This came after Qureshi`s wife posted a video alleging harassment and obstruction by police, claiming their papers were not accepted by returning officers (ROs) in Kot Addu on Friday and Saturday.

Dr Qureshi, a former state minister for housing in the PTI government, has been in hiding since the May 9 episode and facing police raids despite no arrest warrant.

Dr Qureshi`s lawyer was also reportedly detained earlier, leading to accusations of attempts to prevent his participation in the Feb 8 elections.Ms Qureshi claimed that there were no cases against Dr Qureshi but tensions remained high.

Meanwhile, other prominent figures submitted their nominations in Muzaffargarh and Layyah. Former governor Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar, former foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar, and former PP MNA Ghulam Raza Rabbani Khar submitted their papersfor NA-180.

In Layyah, NA-181 sees competition between Bahadur Khan Sehar, Mehboobul Hasan Swag, and Faizul Hasan Swag.

NA-182 features contenders like Syed Saglain Bukhari, Ramzan Bhalar, Sobia Ramzan Bhalar, and Osama Niaz Jakhar.

Provincial assembly seats also witnessed a flurry of submissions, with PP-279 having 18 candidates, PP-281 with 15, PP-282 with 20, and PP-283 with 12 candidates.
