BAJAUR: A local youth organisation on Monday alleged the distribution of most sewing machines under a government initiative to the ruling PTI`s workers in the tribal region.
It demanded strict action action against the culpable people af ter an independent inquiry.
Youth of Bajaur chairman Rehan Zeb Khan told reporters here that the 1,000 government-sponsored sewing machines were meant for deserving widows to help them earn a livelihood but they`re mostly given away to the PTI workers and their relatives in different areas of Bajaur district, especially Salarzai tehsil.
He said social welfare minister Anwar Zeb Khan, who launched the initiative on Jan 13, had promised the distribution of sewing machines `on merit and transparently` but that didn`t happen.
Mr Rehan urged the minister to hold an independent inquiry into the matter for action against culpable people. He warned that the Youth of Bajaur would stage street protests if action on the irregularity wasn`t taken without delay.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Peoples Party leaders on Monday said the party would be re-organised in Bajaur tribal district through massive public contact campaigns.
In a joint statement, PPP Bajaur president Haji Sher Bahdar and general secretary Mohamnad Anees Khan said more members for the party`s district cabinet had been named for re-organisation.
They said they were striving to patch up differences among activists.
