Two convicted of honour killing

CHARSADDA: A model court awarded life imprisonment to two men after convicting them in an honour killing case.

The convicts, including Saifullah of Akbar Jan Kalley area and Qasim of Dara Bahlullah, were also fined Rs0.5 million each by additional sessions judge Abdul Hasan Mohmand.

The court declared the two guilty of killing Deen Mohammad in Bahlullah area on April 13, 2019, in the name of family honour.

MOU INKED: The health department and Bacha Khan University`s Department of Agriculture on Wednesday signed a memorandumof understanding on the diagnosis of malnutrition in children.

BKU Vice-Chancellor Prof Bashir Ahmed and district health officer Dr Farhad Ali signed the agreement documents during a function here.

The university is the first in the public sector to work with the health department on steps against nutritional deficiencies in children and mothers.

Under the MoU, the health department will establish screening units in all category C and D hospitals to identify nutritional status of children and mothers, where manpower and technical support will be provided by the university.

Internships will also be offered to the students of the nutrition department.WORKSHOP: NGOs Needs and Individualland organised a workshop for councillors, social workers and journalists on the Access to Information Act, 2013, in Tangi area here on Wednesday.

Engineer Humayun, Fahad Khan, Anees Takkar and Bakhtiar Khan told participants that journalists and councillors had a key role in creating public awareness of the Access to Information Act for having direct access to the people.

They said that the Constitution`s Article 19-A and KP Access to Information Act provided the people with the right to access information of public institutions and complaints could be lodged with the KP Information Commission against those denyingthatright.
