Sound sensitivity

2018-02-26
MISOPHONIA is a selective sound sensitivity syndrome. It is often an oral sound that someone makes when they eat, breathe, chew, yawn or whistle. It is a disorder in which sufferers are distressed by irritating sounds.

Misophonia was first recognised as a medical condition in 2001. For years scientists were skeptical about whether it was a medical ailment. However, new research at the Newcastle University has proved that people suffering from misophonia have a difference in their brain`s frontal lobe.

The sufferers lose control when they can no longer bear the offending sound and their blood pressure rises. They feel uncomfortable and want the sound to stop or else they move out. This is probably why the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) asked his followers not to talk while eating.

Indeed, good manners and etiquette are the hallmark of a decent human being.
