Crying foul

2025-02-26
THE former prime minister, convicted in cases of corruption after due legal proceedings, has penned a few open letters to the army chief pertaining to what he claims is his `unconstitutional conviction` and `coercive incarceration`. The contents of these letters offer a glimpse of the man who wrote them. The man clearly seems quite frustrated about the lack of response from the establishment.

It seems ridiculous to hear about fairplay, transparency, decency and the rule of law from someone whose political career, especially when in power, was marked by blatant victimisation of political opponents, unnecessary pressure on the judiciary, and bids to muzzle the media through coercion and highhanded tactics.

Thefactisthattheincarceratedleader, his political advisers and party workers have been involved in anti-state activities by creating rifts, gulf and conflict between the people and national institutions.

The man, jailed for corruption, has himself been the root cause of all the problems. He should not pose himself as the victim of `persecution` and `oppression`.

People at large are no longer interested in getting deceivedby the anarchists.
