SWABI: The district education officer has issued appointment orders of 119 male certified teachers (CTs) against newly-created posts in public sector schools, Dawn learnt here on Saturday.
Sources in the education department said primary schoolteachers (PSTs) and female CTs had also been appointed.
The sources added that interviews of secondary schoolteachers were conducted on Friday and their appointment was expected to be finalised soon. With the appointment of SSTs deficiency of teachers in district schools would be overcome, they said.
The sources said the government was focused on filling the vacancies in the public sector schools keeping in view the rising number of students. They added that a strategy was being evolved to ensure that classrooms were not overcrowded. The teachers would not be overburdened as it affected the quality of education.
The sources said when Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf assumed power in KP after 2013 general elections, there were numerous vacancies in public sector schools, but the government filled the vacant posts of teachers.
They said the new teachers had been appointed on contract basis, which was likely to be confirmed with the passage of time.
The sources said the teachers who qualified the NTS test were appointed as per the PTI-led government`s policy.
Meanwhile, the All Teachers Association (ATA), Swabi chapter, has lauded the government`s step to appoint teachers against vacant posts, thus meeting their longstanding demand. It said with the new appointments education standard in local schools would be improved.
`We hail the government`s move as it will ensure that quality education is imparted to pupils,` Abdul Latif, district president of ATA, said.
