Karachi greenery

2018-03-26
IT is highly unfortunate that trees and bushes are being cut down with impunity in Karachi.

I still remember, as recently as 10 years ago, most residential neighborhoods were lined with trees and shrubs maintained by residents while main roads had greenbelts in the middle and on sides providing relief from the blazing sun. That also helped control pollution.

However, they have now been cut tomake parking spaces for cars, while Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and cantonment boards have chopped them down to erect walls to paint advertisements on main roads. Sharea Faisal, Nazimabad and even Clif ton now resemble concrete jungles.

The federal government should take action considering the financial distress the KMC is in and the indifference of the Sindh government towards Karachi`s plight.
