Soldier kidnapped by gangsters in Ghotki

HYDERABAD: An army man posted in Hyderabad garrison was lured into a honey-trap and kidnapped by a gang of dacoits operating in the riverine area of crime-infested Ghotki district, according to an FIR registered in Jamshoro.

Mohammad Punhal Burdi, brother of the hostage Abdul Aziz Burdi who is anaik in the Pakistan Army, had the FIR registered under Section 365-A PPC after it was confirmed his brother had been kidnapped.

He told Dawn on phone that he did not know how his brother ended up in Ghotki on March 22. He grew suspicious after his brother went incommunicado and then he lodged the case with police, he said, adding the matter had been reported to the army authorities as well.

According to the FIR, the hostage called his brother over phone and said that he was held in captivity by dacoits in the riverine area of Ghotki and they were demanding Rs8 million ransom for his release. He had told brother that he was going to offer condolences to some friend at 8am on March 22, said the FIR.Police sources said that the dacoits had trapped Burdi in honey-trap in which the victim was lured to their areas by a member of the gang either a man who can mimic a woman`s voice or probably a woman who befriended him on phone, and then had him kidnapped.

The injured man, Fayyaz Ali Brohi, was brought to the Liaquat University Hospital (LUH), Jamshoro, for treatment.

Reports from the area said that Zamir Khokhar and Ameer Khokhar allegedlykidnapped Komal Brohi alias Zar Bibi while she, along with her brother, was passing through a locality outside a private hospital in Jamshoro. They opened fire on Fayyaz Brohi upon resistance. Zar Bibi is claimed to have been in wedlock of Zamir Khokhar.

The area police and other sources said that she had allegedly eloped with someone and such case was lodged with the Jamshoro police. She had returned to her family after negotiations. Later, Zamir Khokhar learnt about it and on Saturday, he along with his brother intercepted Fayyaz and Zar Bibi to take her away.

Zar Bibi`s mother told local reporters at the LUH that the Jamshoro police had not yet registered an FIR of the alleged kidnapping.
