LAKKI MARWAT: District police officer Tariq Habib inaugurated a tree plantation drive by planting a sapling at the police lines in the District Headquarters Complex, Tajazai, here on Monday.

Other police officers also participated in the activity.

The DPO highlighted the importance of tree plantation and said the police had launched the drive to contribute to efforts for increasing forest cover in the district.

He said increasing forest area was inevitable to reduce the impacts of global warming and addressingrelatedissues.

Mr Habib said forests helped mitigate flood damages, stop expansion of deserts and control land erosion and therefore, the people should take active part in tree plantation campaigns.

He said he had already issued directions to police officials to plant trees inside police stations and at police posts across the district.

SOLAR POWER PLANTS: Political and social activities have asked the government to provide interest-free loans to citizens for installing solar power plants in houses and business outlets.

PPP leader Din Mohammad, Peoples Youth Organisation information secretary Ihsanullah and former PTI general secretary Ahmad Nawaz told Dawn that the rising power prices had forced the people to go for alternate ways to get electricity.

They complained that the government had increased power tariff many times during the last one year though Khyber Pakhtunkhwa produced the cheapest electricity in the country.

`The government is pondering to further enhance electricity prices to please the International Monetary Fund,` Ahmad said.
