SUKKUR/NAWABSHAH: A fire broke out in one bogie of the Karachi Express near Kot Lalu station in Khairpur district on Tuesday but no casualties or major damage was reported.

According to railways officials and the train`s passengers, the fire broke out all of a sudden causing panic and chaos among passengers in the affected and adjacent bogies. Thick smoke filled the affected bogie causing breathing trouble to passengers while those in some other bogies also felt effects of smoke.

The train was on its way to Karachi after OHginating from Lahore. It was halted at the mishap site and fire brigade was called in from the nearest station. Railway police also reached the site.

No one had to be provided emergency treatment as the railways administration and fire bHgade quickly brought the fire under control to prevent it from engulfing other bogies.

Officials at the Pakistan Railways divisional superintendent`s office at Sukkur stated that the PR staff swiftly responded to the emergency to bHng the fire under control.
