HYDERABAD: Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has said that the Sindh government does not follow any of his proposals for controlling traffic accidents involving heavy vehicles in Karachi.
The DIG Traffic should be placed under his administration and after that if any dumper-related road accident occurred in a week, he would leave his post, he vowed.
He was addressing people and speaking to journalists late on Monday night outside a nihari outlet in Latifabad on road in an utterly disorganised show where he arrived to have his 24th Ramazan sehri. He was accompanied by MQM-P leader Dr Farooq Sattar, MNA Wasim Hussain, MQM district organiser Zafar Siddiqui, MPA Rashid Khan and others. He said the dumper mafia had been given carte blanche to kill people. He said that on Monday, a pregnant woman, her husband and their newborn were killed in a tragic road accident. It was highly condemnable, he observed and said such incidents had become order of the day in Karachi.
The governor said Karachi had been hit by terrorism in the past and now `dumpergardi`hadbecomeuncontrolled.
When he raised voice over the issue, he faced a character assassination campaign, he said.
Over the issue of six-canal project, he said it was being politicised.
Criticising the Karachi mayor, he said Wahab was his friend, but he should avoid playing tricks. The governor said that he could sacrifice his friendship when it came to the rights of Karachi and Hyderabad.
He said the mayor was demanding Rs100bn for Karachi from the federal government as if it`s a Rs100 currency note. He remarked that the mayor should present his proposals of projects before seeking Rs100bn from the federal government, adding that his (governor) team would review those proposals andonly then things would proceed.
He said the Hyderabad mayor should also present Rs100bn uplift proposals and then he would entreat the federal government for that purpose. He said that if the Karachi mayor was placed under his administrative authority, people would see that roads of Karachi would be washed like they used to be in 1956.
The governor asked the PPP government to explain where billions of rupees being received from the federal government were spent in Karachi, Hyderabad andtherestofSindh.
Earlier on arrival in Latifabad, people accorded the governor a warm welcome and showered rose petals on him, followed by a display of fireworks.
He thanked the people for that welcome. If any policeman harassed or intimidated anyone, the victim should tell the policeman that he was the brother ofthe governor.
Mr Tessori announced separate scholarship for 12,000 students of public and private sector educational institutions and thoseinterestedin studiesabroad.
He said the Governor House was serving people free of cost; it had spent bil-lions of rupees on different services so far. He disclosed that 12,000 laptops had been distributed among people and currently 25,000 people were having iftar dinner in the Governor House daily where they offered umra tickets, bikes and plots to their guests. He said Rsim ration packets had also been distributed so far.
He said that soon an IT university would start working in Hyderabad.
Tessori said Hyderabad had been facing problems for the last eight years and it was the second largest economic city of Pakistan. Despite huge tax contribution, neither its roads were built nor hospitals updated for delivering healthcare services, he said.
On his arrival, a stampede broke out on road due to utter mismanagement.
Journalists refused to cover governor`s media talk in protest. But the governor apologised to the reporters and then spoke to them.
When a newsman asked about the chances of talks between the MQM-P and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), the governor said if the PTI merged with the Muttahida, his party would offer it a special package.
