Career kidney dealer arrested

LAHORE: Gulberg police claim to have re-arrested an alleged kidney seller, who secured post-arrest ball in a kidney transplant case, and rescued four people, including two women, from his illegal detention who were going to be operated upon for 1(idney donation.

Police said the 1(idney dealer identified as Saleem Mukhtar, of Dunyapur, would lure villagers into financial assistance. Once they arrived in Lahore, he would keep the villagers in rented properties, fraudulently remove their kidneys and sell those to hospitals.

Saleem`s accomplice Siddique Hamid, of Okara, is still at large.

The suspect is a career criminal and has confessed to selling more than 40 kidneys to hospitals, police said.

The victims, who were 1(ept in ille-gal detention by the suspect at a property in Gulberg, are: Abid Mehmood, Liaqat Ali, Maria Khalil and Shahida.

According to a Lahore police spokesman, Saleem was first arrested in connection with a case registered with the Lower Mall police in 2013 and faced imprisonment for three and half months.

He would sell a kidney for Rs1.4 million to a hospital, of which only Rs120,000 would go to the donor.

However, a police investigator said the suspect with the connivance of doctors would extend routine treatment to the ailing victims and get their one kidney removed during the medical procedure. Asked as to how the suspect was earlier released from jail just, the investigator claimed weak laws dealing kidney transplant benefited such accused.

Meanwhile, police registered a case under Sections 334, 342, 420,468, 471, and 506/b of the Pakistan Penal Code and section 11 of the Transplant of Human Organ and Tissue Act 2010 against two Saleem and Hamid.

ACCIDENT: A three-year-old boy was killed while his three other fam11y members suffered injuries in a road crash on Kala Khatai Road Shahdara on Friday.

Rescue 1122 Ambulance Service shifted the injured to Mayo Hospital.

Muhammad Saleem of Narang Mandi was going by a car along with his family when a Mazda truck collided with the car near Habib Banquet Hall, leaving the four car passengers injured.

Shahdara Town SHO Shahid Ali said preliminary investigation showed that the tie-rod of the truck broke down.

He said the truck driver fled the scene leaving the vehicle behind, adding Saleem`s wife was said to bein a critical condition.

The SHO said the name of deceased child was not known immediately and that a case would be registered shortly.

ROBBERY: Gunmen struck three houses in the city on Friday, taking away cash and valuables all worth Rs2.2million.

Four gunmen barged into the house of Maqbool Ahmad on Sagar Road in South Cantonment police jurisdiction and took away cash, jewellery and other valuables all worth Rs1 million.

Some gunmen stormed into the house of Nusrat near Walton Road in the Factory Area police jurisdiction and escaped after looting cash and valuables all worth Rs700,000.

Three gunmen burst into the house of Aamir in RA Bazaar in South Cantonment police jurisdiction and looted cash and valuables all worth Rs500,000.
