Man jailed for five years in extortion case

KARACHI: An antiterrorism court sentenced on Tuesday a man to five years in prison in an extortion case.

Danish was found guilty of demanding protection money from complainant Arshad Khan, owner of a food centre, by putting him in fear of death in June last year in Mobina Town.

The ATC-IX judge pronounced the judgement after recording evidence and concluding arguments from both sides and also imposed a fine of Rs20,000. In case of default the convict will undergo an additional sixmonth imprisonment.

Four men remanded to prison A judicial magistrate remanded on Tuesday an inspector of the Federal Investigation Agency and three others to prison in the cases regarding demolition of a heritage building in Soldier Bazaar.

After the end of their remand, the Counter-Terrorism Department reproduced FIA Inspector Adnan Ali, Abid Shabbir, Amin and Mohammad Yusuf before the court. The magistrate sent them to prison on judicial remand and directed the investigating officer to submit investigation report.

The suspects have been booked for their alleged roles in the demolition of a British-era building, located inside Jufelhurst School in Soldier Bazaar on the night of April 8.
