Governor stresses improvement in education, health in south Punjab

MULTAN: Governor Malik Rafique Rajwana announced establishment of a service tribunal and a registry of the board of revenue here.

He announced this while addressing members of the Lahore High Court Bar Association Multan bench here on Monday. He said a consortium of universities would be formed across the province to improve quality of education.

The governor also said effective policies would be devised to improve education and health sectors in south Punjab. He said increasing the number of judges and establishment of a criminal bench of banking court were the discretion of chief justice of the Lahore High Court to whom he would send his recommendations.He said he would visit bar associations across the province and announce grants for them, adding he had been assured by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif regarding provision of funds.

He announced CCTV cameras would be installed in the high court and said steps would be taken to launch a housing scheme of the high court bar association.

The governor assured the members that efforts would be made to hand over building of the highway department to the bar association and a vehicle provided to them. He added that comprehensive strategies were being devised for all mega projects of Multan.

He further said affectees of the Metro Bus project would get `impressive compensation` for their land.

The governor presented a cheque for Rs3 million to the bar president.

COLLAPSE: The roof of a class-room of a private school collapsed on Monday in which 10 children sustained minor injuries.

As per rescue sources, the roof of a classroom of a private school in Sharifpura collapsed suddenly.

However, the administration rescued children from the rubble.

Managing director of the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF), Dr Aneela Salman, constituted a twomember committee to probe the incident at a partner school.

The committee, comprising PEF Regional Director Shafiq Ahmad and Director (Education Voucher Scheme) Samina Nawaz, will submit its report within 72 hours to the management.

According to the PEF spol(esman, staff of their regional office in Multan immediately rushed to the school to ascertain reasons behind the incident.
