`Govt promoting Harappan culture through projects`

SAHIWAL: Commissioner Shoaib Iqbal says Harappa is a 5,000 years old civilisation, having deep roots in indigenous culture in the area called Indus Civilisation and the Punjab government strongly believes in promoting the Harappan culture among the new generation through its projects like the Harappa Museum.

He was speaking to US Consul General William K.

Makaneole who called on him at his office on Thursday.

Mr Iqbal briefed the guest on the ongoing development work running under the Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Programme (PICIIP) funded by the Asian Development Bank. He spoke about milk production of Sahiwal and Neeli Ravi cow breeds and black buffalo which contributed to production of dairy products and ice cream in the region.

Mr Makaneole said the US had always played an important role in the development of Pakistan and it was looking forward to continue doing so in the future too. He said the purpose of his visit was to open up dialogues and develop contacts with different segments of society in Punjab.

POWER: The strong windstorm along with the hailstorm damaged the 132kV main transmission line near Noorpur, district Pakpattan, cutting off the power supply in the district. The technical staff of the Multan Electric Supply Company reached the site to repair the transmission line.

SCUFFLE: A man was injured when two PML-Q workers` group fought with each other during a public rally organised to show solidarity with the Pakistan army.

The rally was called by the local chapter of the PML-Q on Wednesday evening.

Fateh Sher police arrested an armed PML-Q worker, identified as Waqar, along with a 30 bore pistol. The district chapter of the PML-Q organised the rally after the recent attacks of the PTI workers at army installations.

An eyewitness said the rally participants, led by Allah Yar and Khalid Kamyana, scuffled over the issue of leading the rally near the Decent Bakery. Both groups resorted to aerial firing to dominate each other.

The Fateh Sher police dispersed the rally and made some arrests. Later at night, both the groups reconciled with each other. The police said no complaint was filed by any side for registration of the case. Correspondent
