Water supply from Khanpur Dam restored

RAWALPINDI: Water supply from Khanpur Dam to Rawalpindi and Islamabadwas restored on Sunday morning after it was suspended following a windstorm on Saturday afternoon.

Power supply to Sangjani Water Treatment Plant was stopped after the main electricity transmission line collapsed. The Iesco staff restored electricity late Saturday night while water supply was started on Sunday morning.

Rawalpindi city and cantonment receive 19mgd waterfromKhanpurDam, out of which seven million gallons of water is supplied to the city while Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) and Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) got 12mgd of water. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) received 9.6mgd of water.

Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) spokesman Umer Farooq told Dawn that after water supply was restored from Khanpur Dam, `we started the supply to our six union councils`.

He said most areas of the garrison city were being provided water from Rawal Dam and only six union councils were being supplied water from Khanpur Dam. Staff Reporter
