Ramazan puts a damper on bus service

RAWALPINDI: With the start of Ramazan, number of people travelling on metro buseshas decreased.

The service was launched on June 4 and within two weeks, the number of travel1ers touched 150,000 per day mark. But during the last one week, it has dropped to 83,000, of ficials said.

Managers of the metro bus service said the number would increase in the coming days and on Eidul Fitr.

`The number of travellers decreased in the Erst week of Ramazan but it is gradually picking up.

People doing Eid shopping will also using the service, Commissioner Zahid Saeed told Dawn.

He said after Eid holidays, the rush would end and the number of passengers would further decrease. `We will monitor the number for three months to ascertain the actual figures.

`We have marl(ed sites at which private companies will place advertisements in a few weeks,` the commissioner said, adding that some work was yet to be completed on the metro route.

A shuttle bus service will start from railway station to Marrir Chowk and from Soan bus terminal to Marrir Chowk or Saddar bus station soon, he added.
