Security for LG polls reviewed

ISLAMABAD: The capital police here on Thursday reviewed security arrangements for first ever local government elections in the city.

The meeting, chaired by Islamabad IG Tahir Alam Khan, decided to ensure enforcement of code of conduct given by the Election Commission of Pakistan, police said.

There are 800 polling stations and 3,200 polling booths for 79 union councils` elections.

The officers attended the meeting was briefed about ensuring effective security on the occasion and also to submit report about security duties so that elaborate plan may be finalized.

The Islamabad IG said there would be a complete ban on display of weapons on the occasion of local government elections. He directed all the police of ficials to conduct security survey in their respective areas and submit report about the polling stations which were sensitive.

He directed the police to enhance patrolling during the canvassing by the candidates to avoid untoward incident.

`Holding of elections in capital in a peaceful manner will send a positive message in the country,` he said, adding that police of other districts will also be called for security duty. Staff Reporter
