Five killed as two cars fall into ravine in Shangla

SHANGLA: Five people were killed and as many were injured when two cars, while overtaking each other, fell into a ravine in Bisham on Saturday.

An official at Bisham police station said the two over-speeding cars coming from Karora area fell into the gorge at Kerai area. They said soon after the accident police and people rushed to the scene and retrieved the four bodies and six injured from the gorge and took them to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Bisham, where an injured succumbed to his wounds, while the five others, after being provided firstaid, were referred to Saidu Teaching Hospital, Swat, as their condition was critical.

The deceased were identified as Yamgash of Dunai Karora, Mohammad Daggar and Sherin Bashir of Barkana, Khan Mohammad of Guli Butt, and Haider Ali of Dunai, while the injured were identified as Momin Khan, Sabir Khan, Manzoor Ahmed, Dildar Hashmi and Mohammad Rasheed.

Police said the accident occurred due to over-speeding and absence of safety fences along the SwatBisham road.FOREST GUARD KILLED. A forest guard was shot dead by rivals while coming back home after performing duty in Kohistan.

A police official said, the slain, Taskeel Mohammad, was coming to his Shang village in Bisham, when his rivals shot him dead. The alleged killers were named Mohammad Bashar and Mohammad Afzal, who managed to escape from the area.

Tre local people shifted the injured forest guard to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Bisham, where doctors referred him to Abottabbad. But, he succumbed tohis injuries on the way.

Later, police claimed to have arrestedtheallegedkillersandregistered the case against them on the report of family of the slain. The killing was result of an old enmity.

RAIN LASHES SHANGLA: Heavy rain with hailstorm lashed Shangla district on Friday, turning weather pleasant. Bisham, Alpuri, Chakesar, Puran, Martung, Dandai, Karora, Shahpur, Dehral received rain, flooding rivers and nullahs.

The rain triggered landslides in remote areas and disrupted communication system in the district.
