LAHORE: Punjab Institute of Neurosciences Executive Director Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood has introduced new SOPs for compiling record of supply and use of medicines at the facility to ensure transparency.
In a handout, the executive director said to ensure transparency in the medicines record responsibilities had been assigned to administrative doctors and nursing superintendents.
He said that under the new SOPs all local purchase items and surgical disposables would be issued on the basis of indent book with the signature of the senior registrar and head nurse, mentioning the number of each patient to check misappropriation. He said the verification of the ward or operation theatre to which the medicines would be issued from the store would also have to be ensured.
He said only the medicines of standard brands would be purchased and no compromise would be made on their quality. The nursing staff would receive the medicines from the store and the complete record of the patient would have to be kept up to date, he added.
He said pharmacist would check the record of medicines weekly and inform the medical superintendent in writing about its detail. He said the in-charge nurse responsible for prescribed medicines in the ward or operation theatre would be replaced after every three months.
