20 booked for betting on donkey-cart race

N A R O W A L : Sheikhupura police have registered a case against 20 gamblers and arrested seven of them overdonkeycartrace.

According to Assistant Sub-Inspector Azam Ali of Housing Society Police Station, he was on duty when thepolice received information that a donkey carts race was taking place near the New Sabzi Mandi on Sheikhupura Bypass Road, which had been blocked by a pickup truck.

Upon reaching the location, police found donkey carts racing on the blocked road and around 18 to 20 people gambling on the event.

As soon as the police arrived, many of the suspects ned the scene. However, the police managed to arrest six donkey cart owners Abdul Wahid, Muhammad Shahzad, Ghaffar, Gul, Muhammad Saleem and Noman Ali along with pick-up driver Muhammad Munir.

The police alsoseized the donkey carts as well as the vehicle used to block the road. A first information report has been registered against the seven arrested gamblers and and 13 unidentified suspects.

District Police Officer Sheikhupura Bilal Zafar said strict legal action would be taken against those who attempt to take the law into their own hands.

THREE YOUTHS DROWN: Three young men drowned while bathing in the River Ravi near Sheikhupura, Rescue 1122 said on Tuesday.

According to Rana Haroon Ali, spokesperson for Rescue 1122 Sheikhupura, the control room received a callfrom Dhandi village in Tehsil Ferozewala, reporting that three men had gone missing in the river.

Rescue teams reached the spot and launched a search operation using divers and equipment. After four hours of continuous effort, the bodies of the three victims were recovered.

The deceased were identified as Ahmed Shahid (18), Abdullah Riaz (20) and an unidentified man, all residents of Imamiya Colony. The victims moved into deep water and drowned while trying to save one another.

Rescue 1122 completed the legal formalities and handed over the bodies to local police.
