Power outages, traffic mess main issues of Dir people

TIMERGARA: Elders of Adenzai tehsil on Tuesday demanded of the Lower Dir district administration and the relevant departments to take practical steps for ending unscheduled power outages and traffic mess besides making functional water supply schemes in the district. They also called for providing adequate staff to government schools in the area.
They made the demands during an open court held at Chakdara Fishing Hut with deputy commissioner Attaur Rehman in the chair. District naib nazim Abdul Rashid, Adenzai tehsil nazim Qamar Zaman, assistant commissioner Shah Jamil, SDPO Mohammad Shah, TMO Pervez Akhtar and other officials were present on the occasion.
The area elders and political figures, including Khurshid Ali of PPP, Hussain Shah of ANP, Abdul Salam of PTI, Qaisar Khan of QWP and Sultanat Yar of JI, complained that routine traffic mess had made life miserable for local population. They said that duration of power outages had been increased by over 12 hours though consumers had been paying their bills regularly. They complained that some of the water supply schemes in the area had been nonfunctional for months.
After listening to the elders, the deputy commissioner asked the Adenzai administration to clear roadsides of all encroachments. He said that the district administration was duty-bound to take immediate action on public complaints.
About power outages, he said that eight of the 11 feeders at Chakdara grid station were overloaded and the Pesco had no option but to distribute the load on all feeders. He sought public support for construction of Sanam Dam, Chal(dara bypassandlinkroads.
SCHOOLS PERFORMANCE: District education officer Hafiz Mohammad Ibrahim said on Tuesday that departmental action had been taken against the government high and higher secondary schools for their poor performance in SSC 2017 examinations.
In a statement issued here, he said that a total of 202 students of government schools got A-1 and over 400 A grade in the examinations. He said that GHSS Ouch Sharqi and GHS Makhai failed to show good results and claimed that departmental action had been taken against them.
Meanwhile, the Class-IV Employees` Association on Tuesday threatened to launch a province-wide protest if the government failed to accept their demands, including 15-year concession in retirement to employees recruited on ad hoc basis in 1992, within a month.
The announcement was made during a meeting of the association here with its district president Dost Mohammad in the chair.
